Liturgical Ministries

Altar Server:  Those who assist at the altar have the awesome responsibility of helping the priest during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  Therefore anyone interested in this ministry must approach it with great reverence.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: To accept the call to serve God’s people by assisting the priest distribute Holy Communion during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Lector:  This ministry involves the proclamation of the Word of God at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Parish Choir: The Parish Choir sings at the 10:45am Mass every Sunday.  Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 6:00pm - 7:00pm in the church. No previous music experience is necessary and there are no auditions.Musical focus is singing the best of sacred choral music from Gregorian Chant and Renaissance polyphony to the sacred Catholic musical treasures of the 21st century.

Sacristan: The preparation of the sanctuary for Masses, funerals and other liturgical celebrations.

Usher/Greeter: Help greet parishioners when they enter the church for liturgical celebrations with a warm and friendly welcome for Saturday afternoon, or Sunday morning Mass.

 Community Outreach Ministries

Consoling Partners/Addiction Loss: CPAL is a peer group for loss through addiction connecting those who are struggling with grief from the death of a loved one. Addiction encompasses afflictions of drugs or alcohol. This is for peers seeking comfort through sharing faith in our journey forward. This gathering takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the Parish Center.

Mary’s Closet Thrift Shop:The mission of Mary’s Closet is to provide free clothing to the needy of our parish area and to offer the public the opportunity to purchase good, clean, housewares and gifts at substantial discounts. Ministers are asked to commit as little as 3 hours per week.

Mary’s Pantry: St. Vincent de Paul runs a well-stocked food pantry located at Mary’s Closet. It is open every Thursday 9:30am – Noon.

Mass at Cape Heritage Nursing Home:  Once a month one of our priests celebrates Mass at Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich.  Volunteers help to set up for the celebration of Mass and help the residents who use wheelchairs or walkers get to the dining room for Mass.

Ministry to the Sick & Shut-ins:  Commissioned Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Body of Christ to our sick and homebound parishioners.  This ministry allows parishioners to remain active in our parish community and lets them know they are in our prayers.

St. Vincent de Paul Society: Inspiredby the Gospel values, this organization is devoted to serving those in need by providing assistance (material, educational, and/or spiritual) with compassion, respect and dignity to make meaningful difference in people’s lives as they work to reestablish stability. Meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:00pm - 7:00pm in the Parish Center.

Transportation: Ministers provide transportation to anyone who has no alternative means of attending Mass, parish activities or medical appointments.

 Devotional and Sacramental Ministries

ACTS Retreat - An ACTS retreat is a three day and three night Catholic lay retreat presented by fellow parishioners. The retreat begins on Thursday evening and concludes at Sunday Mass celebrated with the parish community. Talks and activities during the retreats focus on Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service, from which the A.C.T.S. acronym is derived. Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church are the guides for the retreats. Retreats for men and women are given separately.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy: This devotion was propagated by St. Faustina. It is an opportunity to gather with others to implore God for his mercy, both now and for the future, through the merits of the Passion of His Son, Jesus. This devotion takes place every Wednesday morning in the Church following the 9:00am Mass.

Eucharistic Adoration: Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is priceless treasure and wellspring of grace. It provides an opportunity to express gratitude, love and praise. Our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Visit informally, or sign up for an hour each week.

Miraculous Medal Novena: A Novena is a special way of asking for help, or graces. The Miraculous Medal Novena is devoted to Our Lady who asked St. Catherine Laboure to have the Miraculous Medal distributed throughout the world and promised her intercession to all who pray. This devotion takes place every Monday morning in the Church following the 9:00am Mass.

Morning Rosary: We pray the Rosary to grow closer to our Blessed Mother and to better know her son, Jesus Christ. Those who pray the rosary are promised graces and indulgences. The rosary is a powerful weapon — amid both spiritual warfare and worldly battles. Furthermore, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the Gospel mysteries and, it’s the perfect way to make time for God. This devotion takes place daily in the Children’s Chapel of the Church at 8:30am.

Prayer Chain: This ministry is comprised of members of our parish who strongly believe in the power of prayer.  Prayer requests are either called in or emailed and then sent to the ministry members who begin to pray for our Lord’s intercession.

Peace Chaplet: The peace rosary has been a long tradition in Croatia and has been prayed by families for generations.  When Our Lady first appeared to visionaries in 1981, she told them to continue praying this prayer for peace, peace in our hearts, peace in our families, and peace in the world.  This devotion takes place every Tuesday morning in the Church following the 9:00am Mass.

Flame of Love Rosary Cenacle:  The Flame of Love is a church approved devotion based on the heavenly messages given to Elizabeth Kindleman, a Hungarian mystic, from 1961 to 1983, which are recorded in her diary.  This devotion takes place every Thursday morning in the Children’s Chapel of the Church for approximately one hour following the 9:00am Mass.


Educational Ministries

Fidelis: Fidelis is a parish-based ministry run by lay Catholic women volunteers, and is a “sisterhood of women, young and old, leading each other to Christ … rooted in virtue and the richness of the Catholic faith.” Meets every Thursday evening from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

Fraternus: For over 10 years Fraternus has been mentoring boys into virtuous Catholic men. It’s more than a program, it’s a brotherhood. Relying on the teachings of the Catholic Church, Fraternus works because “what we do determines who we are.” This is for men wishing to join the fraternity of mentors, or young men wishing to participate. Meets every Tuesday evening from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

Friday Morning Catechism:Gather with others to read and discuss the organized presentation of the essential teachings of the Catholic Church in regards to both faith and morals, “in the light of the Second Vatican Council and the whole of the church’s tradition.” Meets every Friday morning at 7:00am in the Parish Center.

Religious Education: A Catechist is a person who is thankful for the gifts God has given him/her and uses those gifts to share the faith with the children of our parish. Involves preparing and teaching the lesson for the week based upon the lesson plan provided at the beginning of the program. Classes meet for 1 hour each week.

Respect Life Committee: Helping parishioners appreciate and value the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. The committee informs parishioners of ways we can be good stewards to all whose lives are most vulnerable by supporting our Catholic beliefs regarding abortion, traditional marriage of man and woman, defense of the most vulnerable lives and parental rights. Meets the second Monday of each month at 10:00am in the Parish Center.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): Every year people are welcomed into our community through RCIA, which provides welcome and support for individuals moving towards conversion and full Communion with the Catholic Church. RCIA members and sponsors provide each participant with opportunities to experience the richness of the Church and then through discussion, help them to better understand God’s call in their life and the ways they can respond to it.  Hospitality Ministries

Coffee Ministry: This ministry provides a social environment for all parishioners following the Sunday 9:00am and 10:45am Masses by providing coffee and refreshments.

Funeral Collation Ministry:  Volunteers in this ministry either help to set up, serve & clean up a reception for family and friends following a Funeral Mass and/or bake a dessert for the reception.

Parish Life Enrichment Ministries

Knights of Columbus: This international organization of men is dedicated to assisting the clergy in carrying out the mission of the Catholic Church, by stressing family life, service to others, as well as social and spiritual activities. Meets on the 2nd Monday each month in the Parish Center at 7:00pm.

Men of St. Joseph: All men are welcome to join a fraternity of Catholic men for meetings that address the various challenges that Catholic men face in today’s world. Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm in the Parish Center.

Monday Morning Circle: All men are welcome to meet every Monday at 6:00am in the Parish Center for communal prayer and discussion about how God is working in their lives, as well as the challenges Catholic men are confronted with.

Parish Formation Ministries

Finance Council: The role of the Finance Council is to advise the pastor about the financial affairs of the parish.

Pastoral Council: The Pastoral Council assists the pastor in parish pastoral plans and directions through a consensus process and prayerful reflection.

Office Support Ministries

Mailing Team: Offer support to our office staff with labeling, stuffing and organizing parish mailings approximately 6 times per year. Time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours.

Housekeeping: Ministers assist in helping to keep the church and parish center clean. Duties include: cleaning white boards, dusting church pews and vacuuming.

Landscaping: Ministers maintain the beautification of the Parish property by way of weeding, mulch spreading, pruning and other gardening tasks.

Lawns: Primary responsibilities of this ministry is to keep the parish lawns maintained. Time commitment is 1-2 hours per week.
