Litany of Loreto

LITANY OF LORETO

The Litany of Loreto is the most widespread of the litanies to the Blessed Virgin Mary.  It was composed in the Middle Ages and approved by Pope Sixtus V in 1587.  This recording is adapted from the original Latin chant.  Many of the invocations have a biblical or theological basis, and over the years, there have been several additions.  For example, more recently, Pope John Paul II introduced the title, “Queen of Families.”  With the Litany of Loreto, we entrust ourselves to our Blessed Mother, petitioning for her intercession with many invocations ancient and new.
