PENTECOST

The Spirit of the Lord has filled the whole world; come let us worship him, alleluia.

PRAYER AT HOME

A traditional prayer for use at home today:

V:         Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.

R:         And Kindle in them the fire of your love.

V:         Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.

R:         And you will renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.

Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit

you have taught the hearts of your faithful.

In the same Spirit

help us to relish what is right

and always rejoice in your consolation.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

WINDOW FOR PENTECOST

The window between the Baptistry and nave depicts the power of the Holy Spirit. This is a great time of year to pause for a moment, entering or leaving, and consider the windows message. This fire kindles in us the fire of the Spirit, the zeal for God that keeps all our other concerns in perspective. The energy of the artistic composition, a reminder of the Spirits mighty wind, is meant to remind us of the enthusiasm we can have for life in its fullness.

THIS YEAR, PENTECOST IS ALSO MOTHERS DAY

At the end of the general intercessions at each Mass, a special prayer is being offered for all mothers – for their strength, faith, and love shining forth. We pray for all mothers – for those with us on earth, especially those who are grieving or otherwise in pain, and for those who have gone before us to the Lord. May we all celebrate the eternal banquet of glory!

ANNIVERSARY FOR DEACONS

The deacons ordained 6 years ago for life-long service in our diocese mark that anniversary on the 18th, as shown in the photo with Fr. John Murray and Fr. Marcel Bouchard in the Parish Center. Many will also mark the occasion on Pentecost itself, the great weekend that provided the occasion for the ordination in 2002. We are privileged to have three of them serving our parish - Deacons David Boucher, Arthur LaChance, and Dennis OConnell.

O God,

who taught the ministers of your Church

to desire not to be served but to serve their brothers and sisters,

grant, we beg, to these servants of yours,

whom you graciously chose for the office of deacon

skill in their work, gentleness in their ministry,

and constancy in prayer.

This we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THIS TUESDAY: FATHER BOUCHARDS 36TH ANNIVERSARY

Please consider being part of the 9:00am Mass this day, with our pastor as celebrant.

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Fall River on May 13, 1972 at St. Marys Cathedral. Father Bouchard served in parishes, did graduate study at The Catholic University of America, served the diocese in education and stewardship, and became our pastor in 1994. May he have health and strength for many more years in the Lords service!

Lord our God,

you guide your people by the ministry of priests.

Keep them faithful in obedient service to you

that by their life and ministry

they may bring you glory in Christ.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THIS WEDNESDAY: ST. MATTHIAS

We recall the disciple chosen to replace Judas. The Church uses his feast as a time for remembering the apostolicity of the Church and all its members.

THIS SATURDAY: REMEMBERING BISHOP CASSIDY

He served as our third bishop, from 1934 to this date when he died in 1951. Born in 1869, he was ordained a priest in 1899 and was soon the first chancellor of this diocese, founded in 1904. The influence of James E. Cassidy on the Diocese of Fall River in the first fifty years of its existence was singular. He served successively as chancellor, rector of the Cathedral, Vicar General, Auxiliary Bishop, Apostolic Administrator and Diocesan Bishop. (Barry W. Wall, Bearing Fruit By Streams of Waters: A History of the Diocese of Fall River [2003], p. 54 – a wonderful book available at cost in the parish office). Please pray for the eternal rest of his soul and of all our faithful departed.

ORDINARY TIME – SUMMER

Sunday of this weekend is Pentecost, the finale of the Easter season. So on Monday we enter ordinary time....new sequences of biblical readings, a normal pace after the great penance of Lent and then great rejoicing for Easter.

We will soon return to a semi-continuous reading of Matthew on Sundays, after the feasts placed on the next two Sundays - Trinity and Corpus Christi.

We return on Monday to the Ordinary Time scriptures, and hear the Letter of James read for two weeks.

IN 3 WEEKS: ANNIVERSARY OF OUR CHAPEL

Friday June 6 will be the 82nd anniversary of our chapel, Saint Theresas in Sagamore. Please mark your calendars to come to the festive 9:00am Mass if you can. Mass will be there, not at church.

Please allow us to continue to teach, guide, heal, console, and alleviate the pain and suffering of thousands of people by your generous support of the 2008 Appeal. Perhaps a pledge, which more and more families are doing, will allow you to make a larger contribution easier to pay over ten months with the first payment not due until July. Please make your donation or pledge by May 16 to avoid a second request and save the cost of that second mailing.

CREDIT CARD DONATIONS

Until now these donations have been used for the Annual Collection and the Capital Campaign (Continuing Gods Good Works). Think of the points you could accumulate! Start by contacting Carol Noonan by calling the office (508-888-0209) or via email (cnoonan@corpuschristiparish.org).
