CORPUS CHRISTI PARISH
East Sandwich & Sagamore, MA
BULLETIN: May 3-4, 2008
EASTER SEASON
TODAY: SECOND COMMUNIONS
Over 100 boys and girls received their First Holy Communion yesterday (earlier today, if you are reading this after the vigil Mass). We now welcome many of them to their second Holy Communion. May their lives be marked by ever-greater faith in the Risen Lord!
NEXT SUNDAY:
PENTECOST
The Spirit of the Lord has filled the whole world; come let us worship him, alleluia.
THE FEAST:
This is one of the greatest feasts of the Church year, ranking with Christmas; second only to Easter. Special hymns, prayers, and readings help us pray for the Holy Spirit in todays Church and in all our lives.
ALL MASSES
Mothers will be blessed at all Masses.
Incense will be used at Masses in the church.
10:30 MASS AT CHURCH:
This Mass will include the selection of the Parish Pastoral Council. New members will be chosen (from those already nominated) near the end of this Mass.
As usual, this Mass includes a special liturgy of the Word with children. Parents might consider selecting this Mass if participating with children in K through grade 5.
THIS YEAR, PENTECOST IS ALSO MOTHERS DAY
This is a great day to fix the family schedule around everyones participation at Mass. At the middle of each Mass, a special prayer will be offered for all mothers – for their strength, faith, and love shining forth.
ANNIVERSARY FOR DEACONS
The deacons ordained 6 years ago for life-long service in our diocese mark that anniversary on the 18th. Many will also mark the occasion on Pentecost itself, the great weekend that provided the occasion for the ordination in 2002. We are privileged to have 3 of them serving our parish - Deacons David Boucher, Arthur LaChance, and Dennis OConnell. Shown at right with Fr. John and Fr. Marcel in the Parish Center we were using then prior to the building of our main church. |

THE HOLY FATHERS PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR MAY
Pope Benedict XVI asks all Christians to join in prayer for these needs:
- That Christians may use literature, art and the media to greater advantage to favour a culture which defends and promotes the values of the human person.
- That just as she accompanied the Apostles in the early stages of the Church, may the Blessed Virgin Mary, Star of Evangelization and Queen of Apostles, continue to guide missionaries throughout the world with maternal affection.
MAY AS THE
MONTH OF MARY:
Since the month of May regularly overlaps with the 50 days of Easter, the pious practices associated with May as the month of Mary give all an opportunity to remember Mary in the Easter light – as Mother of the Church and of all sharing in the sacraments of initiation – those newly baptized, our Confirmandi, and the children receiving First Communion. This prayer is traditional for the Easter season (replacing the angelus), at dawn, noon, and evening:
Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
For Christ, your Son and Son of God,
has risen as he said, alleluia.
Pray to God for us, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia!
For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
God of life,
you have given joy to the world
by the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through the prayers of his mother, the Virgin Mary,
bring us to the happiness of eternal life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

2008 CATHOLIC
CHARITIES APPEAL
For so many, the Catholic Charities Appeal has served as a foundation of hope for 67 years. The Appeal is bridging hope by feeding the hungry, mending the broken hearts of children, aiding the elderly, providing counseling and forming many types of support groups. Letters have been mailed. Please keep in mind that your contribution is on behalf of those not able to ask for help themselves. 94 cents out of every dollar you give goes directly to assisting those who have fallen on difficult times. Through your generosity in this campaign, we can offer a bridge to a better life and hope for the future to so many people in southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands. A pledge will allow you to spread out your payments over a 10 month period beginning in July. If you did not receive a letter, packets are available in the Bay Room of the church and at the entrances to St. Theresa Chapel.
