CORPUS CHRISTI PARISH
E. Sandwich & Sagamore, MA
BULLETIN: April 26/27, 2008
TODAY:
ANOINTING OF THE SICK
This is taking place at the 10:30am Mass. Let us pray for the sick who are at this Mass, and for all the sick.
God of compassion,
you take every family under your care
and know our physical and spiritual needs.
Transform our weakness by the strength of your grace
and confirm us in your covenant
so that we may grow in faith and love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
TODAY: EASTERN EASTER
In most churches of the east – Byzantine Orthodox, Coptic, Ethiopian, etc. – today is Easter Sunday. Different from our date because they follow the Julian (not Gregorian) calendar, we wish all our Orthodox neighbors a most blessed Pascha.

Come, let us worship Christ the Lord as he ascends into heaven, alleluia.
This is a holyday of obligation in our part of the USA. (In other areas, it has been moved to next Sunday.)
AT OUR PARISH: The Mass schedule will be:
Wed. April 30: 5:00pm at St. Theresa Chapel
Thu. May 1: 9:00am at Corpus Christi Church
7:00pm at Corpus Christi Church
AT HOME
The day begins an annual 9-day period of praying for our Church – for an ever-more intense receptivity to the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. On this day, those who pray the rosary might select the glorious mysteries.
THIS
FRIDAY, MAY 2: FIRST FRIDAY
As on all first Fridays, the Eucharist will be exposed for adoration after the 9:00am Mass until just before the 9:00am Mass on Saturday. Over the past few months, these 23 hours of prayer have been enhanced by a portion of the prayer being led by the prayer group of the Brazilian Catholic Community of Hyannis. This Friday, they will be here for two hours:
PRAYER AND SONG IN PORTUGUESE, BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
8:00PM - 10:00PM, MAY 2
THIS
SATURDAY, MAY 3: FIRST COMMUNION
Over 100 boys and girls will receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday at 10:30am and 1:30pm Masses. Please pray for all of these children.
Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers (the official prayer book published by our nations bishops in 1988) offers these words for parents of first communicants to use as they bring their son or daughter to church for this very important Mass:
N._____, may the Lord Jesus touch your ears to receive his word,
and your mouth to proclaim his faith.
May you come with joy to his supper
to the praise and glory of God. Amen
THIS SATURDAY: FEAST OF STS. PHILIP AND JAMES
The apostle Philip preached in what is now Turkey, James the Less stayed in Jerusalem to lead that Church. Their relics were later put under the same altar in Rome, whence this days joining of the two.
MAY AS THE MONTH OF MARY:
Since the month of May regularly overlaps with the 50 days of Easter, the pious practices associated with May as the month of Mary give all an opportunity to remember Mary in the Easter light – as Mother of the Church and of all sharing in the sacraments of initiation – those newly baptized, our Confirmandi, and the children receiving First Communion.
This prayer is traditional for the Easter season (replacing the angelus), at dawn, noon, and evening:
Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
For Christ, your Son and Son of God,
has risen as he said, alleluia.
Pray to God for us, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia!
For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
God of life,
you have given joy to the world
by the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through the prayers of his mother, the Virgin Mary,
bring us to the happiness of eternal life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
WEEKDAY MASS
A gentle reminder that the assembly gathers in the south (or Blessed Virgin) transept of the church for weekday Mass. Even if you arrive at the last minute or late, you are invited to sit in that part of the church. The readings are proclaimed, and Mass is celebrated facing that direction. Sitting at the end of the nave pew (as some have begun to do) invites others to do the same, and not join together as one family for the celebration of the Eucharist.
Stewardship
STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK

MARYS CLOSET THRIFT SHOP
What to do about Mothers Day? Mom deserves the very best but with the rising prices of everything from food to gas and the uncertain economic outlook ahead, your allowance just doesnt go as far as it did in the past and the prospect of a cost of living raise looks bleak. Stop by Marys Closet and we will help you stretch that dollar as far as it will go. Not only do we have clothing at ridiculously low prices, but we also have a fine collection of costume jewelry, purses, scarves, knickknacks and books. Why are we willing to be so helpful? Mom would want us to.
Marys Closet Thrift Shop hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL
The Catholic Charities Appeal begins May 1.. Information about the Catholic Charities Appeal along with a pledge card will be mailed out this week. Caring, Sharing, Offering Hope is the theme for this years effort. The Catholic Charities Appeal, which supports many programs that serve the less fortunate, enables you to share in this work of love. Please be thinking now about responding in a generous manner to this years plea. A pledge will allow you to give more and spread it over ten months without a payment being made until July. Next weekend Deacon David Pepin of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Acushnet, and chaplain at St. Lukes Hospital in New Bedford, will speak about the work accomplished through the appeal at all Masses except the 7:00am Mass at St. Theresa. We look forward to welcoming him.
